General

The year has been fantastic for our community. As usual the social and cultural function brought us together during the course of the year. Our special thanks to all of our committee members who made all these events possible. Big thanks to Christchurch city council that funds CTS to bear its expenses.  

Office bearers

Following executive committee was elected unanimously at AGM held on 1^st of April 2007 for the year 2007/2008.

• Vice President: RV Ganesh
• Secretary: Deva Kulasegaram
• Treasurer: K.Sanjay

Following appointment was also unanimously made. 

• Cultural coordinator: Suresh Kumar
• Tamil school Coordinator: Senthil Mohan / Easwara Padchcham

Social and Cultural events

As usual this year CTS celebrated Tamil New Year, Navaraathri, Theepawali and Thai Pongal.  CTS also organized a get together event in the middle of the winter and a Picnic following Christmas.  

Over all following functions were organized by CTS for the year 2007/2008. 

1. Tamil New Year function ( 21st of April 2007)
2. Mid winter function (21^st of July 2007)
3. Navaraathri function (20^th of Oct 2007)
4. Theepawali Function (10th of Nov 2007)
5. Xmas Picnic ( 30^th of Dec 2007)
6. Thai Pongal function (26^th of Jan 2008)

Special thanks to our dance teacher Ms Anuradha who’s full support and dedication made it possible to stage variety of beautiful dance programs at every cultural event. We have also seen various dance performances by visiting guest and hence CTS extends its thanks to them and welcome their participation in future as well. CTS would like to thanks the hard work and commitment put by all committee members this year. Also big applause to Kannan Ganesh who consistently presented with his talented performances in each and every function. 

Tamil School

With Tamil teachers and coordinator’s effort Tamil exam has been conducted and grade certificate has been issued to students which obtained from Australian Tamil School through New Zealand Tamil Society Auckland. Effort made by Tamil school teacher school coordinator and parents to make happens was much appreciated.  

Funds

We would like to express our thanks to the Christchurch City Council for their financial support that has helped us running this society. 

Creative community Fund donated us with $500.00 and Community development Fund with $3000.00 which was being used for running Tamil school classes and other general expenses such as hall hire etc. Community Trust Fund donated us with $700.00 to purchase Video camera for the CTS usage. Unfortunately due to market price variety it was not possible to purchase the camera but the fund was kept aside to be used by subsequent committee. Also this year we had collected $450.00 through membership contribution which is significantly high compared to previous years.

Overall this year has been great year for the CTS.
