Canterbury Tamil Society was first founded in 1995 by a group of Tamils lived in Christchurch region who wanted to bring together the Tamil community within the Christchurch region and start Canterbury Tamil Society:

The Future
We hope to grow our society in the coming years to bring together the wider Tamil community within the Christchurch and across Tamil Societies in the New Zealand. In the future, we hope to collaborate with other societies in Christchurch with events and sports matches as well.
