Cultural Coordinator’s Message

Cultural Coordinator
Mr. Nadraj Sundaram

Tamil culture is the culture of the Tamil people. This culture is rooted in the arts and ways of life of Tamils in India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore and more importantly, across the globe. This rich culture is expressed in language, literature, music, dance, theatre, folk arts, martial arts, painting, sculpture, architecture, philosophy, religions, etc. Tamilians have strong attachment to the Tamil language which is recognized as one of the oldest languages in the world, and is often venerated in literature as “Tamil Annai”, “the Tamil Mother”. On the other hand, Tamil literature is of considerable antiquity, which ranges from lyric poetry to works on poetics and ethical philosophy, is remarkably different from contemporary, and represents the oldest body of secular literature in South Asia.

As a coordinator I am very proud to work on bringing Tamil families and friends together and closer to each other, and carrying our cultural values to other New Zealand societies as well. The events set out by CTS give us better chance to pass our Identity, language and culture on to our younger generations, which is vital than anything else.
