Who We Are

The Canterbury Tamil Society (CTS) proudly runs the CTS Academy of Tamil Language & Arts, a non-profit educational initiative dedicated to preserving and promoting Tamil language and culture within our community.

Our mission is to help the younger generation – especially children from migrant families – develop a strong foundation in Tamil language skills while embracing the richness of Tamil heritage through arts and cultural activities.

Our Curriculum

CTS Academy follows the Canada Padimurai Tamil curriculum, a specialized methodology designed for children whose secondary language is Tamil. This approach is particularly effective for migrant children, as it focuses on teaching Tamil as a second language while building confidence and proficiency at every level.

The Padimurai Tamil methodology emphasizes:

• Phonetics-based learning: Teaching sounds and syllables to strengthen language acquisition.

• Second-language delivery: No prior knowledge of Tamil is assumed; students start according to their proficiency level.

• Progressive structure: From beginners to advanced learners, all students are guided step by step.

• Cultural integration: Language is taught alongside cultural practices, songs, stories, and traditions.

This structured and inclusive method ensures students not only learn Tamil effectively but also feel connected to their cultural roots.
